Bumble Bee - Taxon Family: Apidae*

The images on this page show a bumble bee from the Family Apidae.  They are all of the same specimen.  The specimen was found on 2006-05-13.  Its length was 27 mm.  It had flow into my sister-in-law's house and buried it's stinger in her pillow.  She saved it so that I could photograph it.  I think that the intervening hours between when she put it in a jar and when I photographed it must have taken a toll on the bee.  It was crawling when I photographed it but not flying.  I released it after the photos but I doubt if it survived.

*Caveat:  I am NOT an entomologist and, as with all my 'bug' pictures, I am NOT positive about the accuracy of my taxonomic identification.
